The transportation department program supports innovation in the communication of vehicle data.
The Department of Transportation has opened applications for a grant program totaling $40 million that seeks to improve the digital distribution of diagnostic data in cars and road-based vehicles.
The Federal Highway Administration will select projects that propose the greatest amount of innovation within vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication technology. Many newer cars already collect digital diagnostic data as they operate, and granting car manufacturers and mechanics the means to safely connect to that data can help address the rising roadway deaths in America.
“We can and must use all the tools at our disposal to reduce the devastating loss of life on our nation’s roadways, and technology has a big role to play in that effort,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “Connected vehicle technology has the potential to save lives, and we are proud to provide this funding to help accelerate its development.”
